I spent a considerable amount of time learning about and comparing various math curriculums before setting out on my Singapore Math adventure over 6 years ago. Since I started teaching this curriculum, I have continued to be delighted and amazed at how well it is put together and how it teaches kids of all ages to think like a mathematician, not a robot. There is a reason why Singapore students score higher in math than students in any other country and why so many schools in the United States are adopting this curriculum. Students in the Singapore Math 5 Summer course will discover how to find factors and multiples and have opportunities to try their hand and brain at mental calculations. They will learn to sketch models for fractions and division that are wonderfully concrete examples of how the different operations work together to solve multistep word problems. We will pull out the scissors and paper and prove to ourselves the rules for finding the area of triangles. Other topics covered this year will include multiplying by tens, hundreds and thousands and prime factorization. Each new puzzle solved will give your student that same thrill as winning a family board or card game. Math can be fun! You and your student are invited to join us in the adventure this summer!

- Veikk Pen Tablet (for writing and drawing on a computer screen with more precision than a mouse)
